A young child was found alive inside of a garbage bag behind a home on Walnut Street in Elmira.

According to media partner, WENY-TV, the child is dehydrated but stable after being taken to the hospital.

A neighbor who helped save the girl said they heard what sounded like a crying cat nearby, the report said. They then saw a child's feet sticking out of the bag.

The neighbor said the child was filthy and covered in waste. After taking her out of the bag, they called the police and cleaned her up.

Police say Child Services is involved, but no one has been charged.
